PWEDO is a national NGO, contributing to sustainable development, improving the livelihoods of rural farmers and women, promoting gender equity and social inclusion and preserving the environment. PWEDO was established in 1994 with a mission to develop and strengthen each individual’s potentiality through imparting specific knowledge and technical skills to change attitude and behaviour of the people for equitable growth and sustainable development. PWEDO works with organized smallholder farmers, enhancing small scale commercialization of agriculture in partnership with community based organizations and local government for income generations, commercial pocket development, marketing and empowering women by transforming power relations. PWEDO has been working in partnership with: Ministry of Local Development; Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment; Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Agriculture; High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of Bagmati (HPCIDB); AusAID; UNDP/MEDEP; UNESCO (NATCOM) and many local level state and non-state actors. On 5th of June 2013 on the occasion of World Environment Day 2013, the National Environment Conservation Women’s Group Award 2013 was awarded to PWEDO by the Rt. Honourable Khil Raj Regmi, Chairman of the Council of Ministers at a ceremony held at the Royal Nepal Academy Hall. The Executive Committee of PWEDO is comprised of human rights activist, researchers, development leaders, academicians, experts and practitioners from different sectors. PWEDO is professionally assisted by an advisory board consisting of senior development experts.
